What is Fused Glass?

A technique in which two or more layers of fusible glass are stacked, put in a kiln and heated to 1450 - 1500 degrees.  The layers of glass will get soft enough at this temperature and melt together to become one piece of glass.

While fused glass techniques are generally used to create glass art, glass tiles and jewelry, the slumping process allows the creation of three dimensional shapes and forms in the example of dishes, bowls, plates and ashtrays.

Producing functional pieces generally requires 2 or more separate firings; one to fuse the glass and a second to shape it.

What is Dichroic Glass?

Originally used in NASA's space shuttle laser technology, dichroic glass consists of a very thin layer of different metallics deposited on the surface of glass.

To achieve this thin layer,  a vacuum process must be used. The complexity of this technology makes dichroic glass very expensive, yet the finished result is generally well worth the cost!
